BPI Users Doing OK in Y2K; Some Easy Billing Users StruggleJanuary 21, 2000 -- By now, virtually all BPI users have already installed version 5.0 of BPI and are proceeding as normal in the new millenium. There was a small flurry of calls from BPI Entry C.13 and C.14 (circa 1985) users in the last month, as those versions of the BPI don't work at all now that the new year has rolled over. These old versions of BPI were among the first versions of BPI produced. We estimate that until this year there were still hundreds or perhaps a few thousand users left of this old accounting series. It was especially popular among accountants and bookkeepers who used it for after-the-fact accounting. Unfortunately, the code is peppered with 2 digit date logic, and the source code was permanently retired by Computer Associates more than a decade ago. Although officially dead for years, the product is now functionally dead also. The bulk of Y2K related calls we have been receiving since the new year have related to Easy Billing. Users of older versions of the software found that invoice dates and invoice due dates were transferring incorrectly into BPI. Symptoms included current invoices showing up on BPI A/R statements in the 120+ days column...because they were dated in the year 1900. Multiple software notifications were mailed to Easy Billing users, and a late Y2K patch diskette was mailed out to current registered users in November of 1999, but the current version has still not made its way onto all users' hard drives yet. The current version, dated November 17 1999, is the version for which all Y2K problems have been addressed. Users of the Easy Billing December 1998 version, and later versions, can get the latest software patch free by clicking here. The patch works only for Easy Billing versions dated Dec. 99 or later. Users of previous versions of Easy Billing should contact us at (800) 256 1786 for information on getting current. |
